THEME DAY: WAITING • Goodie bags filled with biscuits, candy, noodles, slippers (flip-flops) and a rubber ball waiting to be distributed to children who live in poor communities and whose homes were flooded because of the heavy rains of typhoon Ondoy (Ketsana) during the 2009 Lights for Hope Christmas outreach party.

Old Kitchen
This week we will explore old kitchens from days gone by. Today's picture was taken in 1917. I see a stove back there, but no refrigerator. I wonder when electric refrigerators gained widespread use? I know that earlier there were "ice boxes" which kept things cold, but you had to keep adding blocks of ice to them.

Private party
The elegant, old world-style private dining room (or function room, as we call it here) of restaurateur Larry J. Cruz's Filipino restaurant Abe (ah-beh), named after his father Aguilar. The rest of the restaurant uses more modern wood, rattan and fabric chairs. No photos of the food this time (Jacob and Marley, you can rest easy now—I don't want you gaining weight because of me) but I do want to say that it's very, very good. Forget the diet if you ever have the chance to eat at Abe—some of their best dishes are deep fried or feature pork veined with fat (melt-in-your-mouth delicious!).
White House Kitchen

A staff to lean on
The two saints beside the stairs leading into the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Church are Saint Anthony Mary Claret and Saint Jude Thaddeus. St. Anthony Claret is the founder of the Congregation of the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, which runs this parish in Quezon City. St. Jude is the patron saint of desperate cases and lost causes, which makes him a very popular saint in the Philippines.

Peruvian Pure Alpaca Fina
The Tijeras Mitten pattern is now available HERE on Patternfish (I'm working on uploading all of my single patterns there) and HERE on Lulu.
I received an email from Elann that they are discontinuing the Peruvian Pure Alpaca Fina due to lack of sales. I'm bummed because I have lots of colors and now I can't design any more projects with it. (HERE are the Arctic Spring Mittens I designed with this pretty yarn.) In fact I'm using the Alpaca Fina right now for the Selbu Modern hat seen below. We extended the Selbu Modern KAL on Ravelry's Stranded forum through the end of December so if you still want to get involved, go HERE.
Fortunately Elann's thicker Peruvian Pure Alpaca is still in production. I've chosen these colors to make a hat for DH. He requested a pointy hat with ear flaps but I'm not sure that is what I'll do.
The next KAL for Ravelry's Stranded Forum will be an accessory using the massive Drops free pattern archive. Go HERE to vote for which pattern - the Drops KAL will begin Dec 1 and run through the end of January.
Hydroplane Prototype
Today's picture shows Wilbur Wright and an early attempt he made to create a hydroplane. You can see he mounted his airplane on a canoe. The picture was taken in 1909. It is amazing how quickly things moved and evolved in the early days of aviation.Thursday, November 26, 2009
Fabre Hydroplane
This picture from 1911 shows the Fabre Hydroplane, designed to take off and land on water. All I know is the guy in the boat is going to have to row a lot faster if they ever hope to get this thing in the air.Hope you all have a Blessed Thanksgiving.

The last World Wide Wednesdays @ 7Pecados themed party will be on December 2. It will be a Marker Party where guests will be given white shirts and markers. Care to guess what you're supposed to do?
