Mittens in Color Booklet

Give me a day or two and I'll round up all the resources I can find about intarsia in the round and post them here. I need to hunt through my files.

The mitten booklet is finally done just in time for summer. It is available HERE on Ravelry and HERE on Lulu. It will be on Amazon also in a few weeks. I'm doing this one a bit differently - I will just give a straight 20% from the proceeds to our fledgling chapter of the New Mexico House Rabbit Society. I'm still committed to giving $1000 a year to the Colorado HRS from the other booklet sales.

Here are all the mitten patterns (four total) in the booklet again. I also included a little section on mitten knitting techniques.

Sandia Fingerless Mitts

Thanks everyone for reminding me I can also do the pigs on the piggy toe socks in intarsia in the round. I do have that old PGR article about how to do it - I'll dig it up and see what I think. I'm going to get started on the socks tonight during the 1st game of the Boston/Yankees series.

I've finally finished the knitting and photography for the mitten booklet. Here are the Sandia fingerless Mitts done in 2 colors of Palette. I'm happy with them but I'm even happier our lilac is blooming. The previous 2 years we received late frosts so we didn't get any lilacs.

All I have left is editing so I plan to drink lots of caffeine this week and finish up the booklet. Then it is on to a summer of fun socks.

Valencia Mittens

More mittens to show you - I'm calling these the Valencia mittens and they use 3 colors of Cascade 220.

It was a beautiful weekend so we decided to take a walk around Nob Hill and Ridgecrest in Albuquerque.

The catmint was in bloom.

Everything is starting to green up.

I'm not sure the name of this park in Ridgecrest but it is my favorite park in the city.

Mittens in Color Booklet

Saturday I tried to take mitten photos on some interesting rocks inspired by Anna Zilboorg's Magnificent Mittens book. We live on what they call the green side of the mountain but the other side of the mountain reminds me a bit of the Sonoran desert so we headed there.

We went to a wonderful hiking/biking area called Embudito Canyon. My online Spanish dictionary says that embudito means little funnel.




It was quite sunny and we really searched for a tiny bit of shade. Even with shade the mittens are a bit washed out but you can see the cool rocks.



The bright sun and beautiful temperatures in the 60's made us a bit loopy so DH staged this photo to tell a story. He said the cactus was going to attack him but the mittens were keeping him safe. And they say I'm the wacky one in this relationship!




These rocks really are beautiful so maybe we'll try to get back on a cloudy day. It is amazing that you can find so many different types of moss and lichen in a dry sunny area.




I have 3 more mitten designs that I need to knit and write up for the booklet. One is almost done and one is a children's mitten so I hope it will be done soon.
